Estrogenic effects of ingredients of glyphosate-based herbicide ingredients in human breast cancer cells
  • organism-icon Homo sapiens
  • sample-icon 39 Downloadable Samples
  • Technology Badge Icon Affymetrix Human Transcriptome Array 2.0 (hta20)

Description

Glyphosate-based herbicides are the major pesticides used worldwide. There is an intense debate on the estrogenic effects of their ingredients. We have compared the estrogenic effects of glyphosate (the active principle), polyethoxylated tallowamine (a co-formulant), and a commercial formulations containing different co-formulants to those of estradiol and bisphenol A in the MCF-7 human breast cancer cell line. The gene expression profiles were determined using the Affymetrix Human Transcriptome 2.0 Array.

Bisphenol A alternatives can effectively substitute for estradiol in promoting cell growth through estrogen receptor alpha in human breast cancer cells
  • organism-icon Homo sapiens

  • Technology Badge Icon Affymetrix Human Transcriptome Array 2.0 (hta20)

Description

Plasticizers with estrogenic activity, such as bisphenol A (BPA), have been reported to have potential adverse health effects in humans, especially in fetal and infant stages. Due to mounting evidence and public pressure BPA is being phased out by the plastics manufacturing industry and is being replaced by other bisphenol variants in BPA-free products. We have compared estrogenic activity of 7 bisphenol analogues (BPA; bisphenol S, BPS; bisphenol F, BPF; bisphenol AP, BPAP; bisphenol AF, BPAF; bisphenol Z, BPZ; bisphenol B, BPB) in human breast cancer cell lines.

Adult and Neonatal dorsal horn gene expression 7 day post sciatic nerve SNI injury
  • organism-icon Rattus norvegicus
  • sample-icon 24 Downloadable Samples
  • Technology Badge Icon Affymetrix Rat Expression 230A Array (rae230a)

Description

As rats do not develop neuropathic pain like hypersensitivity as neonates post nerve injury but do as adults we have used these arrays to help define the processes involved in this process.

Gene expression profile of activated CD4 T cells from adults and newborns
  • organism-icon Homo sapiens
  • sample-icon 12 Downloadable Samples
  • Technology Badge Icon Affymetrix Human Gene 1.0 ST Array (hugene10st)

Description

Given their precipitous encounter with the environment, newborn infants might be expected to possess abundant immunoprotective mechanisms. Paradoxically, their T cells display grossly impaired Th1 anti-bacterial and anti-viral responses. This study identifies factors produced by neonatal CD4 T cells when compared with adult naive CD4 T cells and highlights CXCL8 as a pivotal effector molecule in neonatal T cells. Using Affimetrix microarray we compared gene expression in cord blood derived CD4 T cells with naive CD4 T cells from adults after polyclonal stimulation.

Publication Title

Interleukin-8 (CXCL8) production is a signatory T cell effector function of human newborn infants.

Cell interactions, signals and transcriptional hierarchy governing placode progenitor induction
  • organism-icon Gallus gallus
  • sample-icon 6 Downloadable Samples
  • Technology Badge Icon Affymetrix Chicken Genome Array (chicken)

Description

Cranial placodes contribute to all sense organs and sensory ganglia in the vertebrate head. Despite their diversity they originate from a common pool of Six1/Eya2+ progenitors. In a molecular screen we identify new factors upstream of the Six1/Eya2 cassette and use these to dissect the transcriptional hierarchy that controls progenitor specification. We find that although two different tissues, the lateral head mesoderm and the prechordal mesendoderm, induce placode progenitors, both initiate a common transcriptional state, but over time gradually impart regional character.
